What league are we in?

Good question, thanks for asking. We're in Croydon Sunday Municipal League division 2. It is a slight surprise that there are 3 divisions below us, but that's the way it is. Sovereign & Sanderstead Spitfires join us once again. Click here for more.

When's the first league game?

Another good one, you're on form. It's Sunday 21st September, against Croydon Postal (away). See fixture news for more. We have a friendly on 14th, details on home page.

Will we train during the winter months?

Yes. Likely to be private pitch hire to start the week commencing 15th September, as the light is fading by about 7:30pm now. This can only happen if everyone is committed, Mr Cling wasted many pennies paying for Monks Hill last season when not enough turned up.

What about the Surrey Cup?

Glad you asked. We play a team called M Tennis in round 1 of the Junior Cup on Sunday 12th October (away).

Details of any event or news will always be on banterfc.co.uk, so check back for updates.

Croydon Sunday Football League AGM – Wednesday 18th June 2008

There isn’t a lot of shock or big news here, but I could copy and paste page 226 of the Oxford dictionary and you’d still read it.

The Croydon League began in 1951 with 7 teams. At its peak it had 130 teams. The 2008/09 season had 4 teams apply. For that reason, it is disbanding after all these years. There were guys sat at the front who were not only conducting the 57th AGM but attending just as many too. A bit of a shame really.

There was someone in attendance from all of the Division 1 sides – Sovereign were out in force – and a couple from the Premier Division also. It was Sovereign with whom I had most of my discussions with, in particular CSFL’s referee of the season, Roy. Here then are my findings of the evening, some based on fact, some on rumour:

-          Milburn and Santos picked up Premier Division winners and runners-up medals

-          Golden Lion II and Sovereign picked up Division 1 winners and runners-up medals

-          Sovereign picked up the Inter-Division winners medals (hilariously, since I pointed out to them we’d only played 1 game and that they pretty much won this league by default, which they were rather proud of!)

-          Milburn won the award for top goalscorers in CSFL

-          Eagle Royale won the fair play award

-          Tony (Croydon) and Linda (Sanderstead) won joint awards for best club secretary

-          All league trophies will be returned to the council, where teams must apply to keep them (there is no guarantee they will)

-          The holders of cup trophies (i.e. Banter’s runner-up cup) could be retrieved by the council. It probably won’t be so we’ll keep hold of that and stick it in the cabinet forever, to remind ourselves of 2nd best

-          Banter Central FC will play in the Croydon Sunday Municipal League next season

-          As will Golden Lion II, Sovereign, Sanderstead, Croydon and rather likely Milburn (and Reserves if it exists)

-          Grading games will be given to all teams to determine what league they will be placed in

-          Likely home pitches are Duppas Hill or Purley Way. Municipal’s Purley Way pitches are – I’m told – the one’s closer to Collonade’s, which are flatter and nicer. Unless of course we go private.

Until next time, stay safe.
